Story
This will be our first time doing a run for a charity and specifically for autism and learning disabilities. Me, my partner and our family members started to notice that our two-year old son Noah wasn't hitting his milestones and was generally developing slower that other children.
As time went on we decided to see a series of medical professionals to get a second opinion and was told he was likely to be autistic. He doesn't play like other children do, instead he loves flapping his hands, spinning in circles and clapping and generally engaging in repetitive behaviours. He prefers to be alone most of the time, and finds it difficult to interact and communicate with other children.
Times do get hard, he doesn't enjoy being in public places which can lead to him becoming upset. People stare and make comments which can affect me and my partner negatively because he doesn't understand and he doesn't mean it. All we want is for him to feel welcomed and not judged like any other parent would want for their child, and sometimes being a carer, teacher and parent to a child with special needs sometimes requires some extra support.
That is why we would like to support this charity, their aims are close to home, we would love to help make more people aware of autism and learning difficulties and support those who need that bit of extra support.
If you agree with the aims of the charity and would like to help with the raising of awareness and support to those who need and deserve it, feel free to donate towards our fun run for the charity, although it's entirely up to you.
Kind regards
Jade & Damon
