In January 2020, I underwent an operation to remove a growth on my spinal cord. Over 1.5 years later, after relearning to walk, I’m doing things I never thought I would again.

Since the start to my recovery, I was pointed in the direction of Ed Jackson, someone who’s been influential in my outlook. Ed and his wife Lois have set up the organisation Millimetres to Mountains who use the power of the outdoors to aid people facing challenges in their lives. I've been lucky enough to have I have been invited as one of this years beneficiaries. As a result, I am going to scale the 4200m mountain, The Vincent Pyramid, along the M2M team in Italy in September. This is something I never would have imagined doing even before my injury, but I am excited to be part of such a special and impactful experience.

Challenges have been the stepping stones of my recovery, from self transferring into my wheelchair to walking 5km in an hour, which all seems so long along. Cycling has played the greatest role in my recovery and with adaptations make sport accessible to me again. I’ve been training for the past few months for my latest challenge.

On the 10th July, I will be aiming to compete an adapted version of The Iron Man. Maybe getting in the water might not be the wisest, as I don’t think I’d make it back out 😂. Therefore I’m going to cycle 112 miles around the Yorkshire Dales, get off and walk the Yorkshire 3 peaks, equating to a marathon, raising money to M2M and all the amazing work that they do.
