Story

So it's been just over a year since the accident and I still feel incredibly grateful to be here and to be moving. Besides the love that goes out to all my family, friends and loved ones who supported me during my recovery, most of that gratitude goes to the incredible staff at the Royal London Hospital and the NHS in general. And seeing as though I fancied challenging myself to run a marathon I thought the most deserving cause (and the cause that is going to motivate me the most to train) is the charity, Friends of The Royal London Hospital.

In the past, Friends of the RLH have purchased a state of the art Life Support Ventilator for the A&E Department and have raised £10,000 to purchase a Resuscitaire Autobreath, a piece of equipment necessary for the treatment of preterm or newborn babies in the Pediatric A&E Department. As well as big purchases, Friends also act on a much smaller scale offering much needed relief to individual patients. By organising entertainers bi-monthly in the children's ward and with the so-called 'Trolley Dollies' operating a Mobile Trolley Service across the wards, Friends recognise that positive patient experience has to be addressed alongside investment in medical technology.

Any donation that could be spared towards Friends of the Royal London Hospital will be hugely appreciated. When I ran the Half Marathon last year I raised £977 so if we could break the £1000 mark this year that would be truly amazing! Thank you for taking the time to read this. Lots of love, Jamal.

About the charity

Friends aim to provide amenities to support the social recuperation of all ages that have to stay in the wards either before or following treatment. Funds are raised over and above the NHS provision to provide patient comforts, which help to make time spent in hospital better for all. Big Thankyou
