At Macmillan, we will move mountains to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can. We’re doing whatever it takes. But without your help we can’t support everyone who needs us. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

I'm going to swim 2.4 miles, ride 112 miles then simply jog the remaining marathon over the course of a gruelling day in Wales.

I have completed an Ironman before but I only just scraped inside the time limit, and that was flat seas and a flat run. God only knows how I'll get around the hills of Wales. I've tried to pull out but they won't let me, I'm due knee surgery, my feet hurt and frankly I'd rather be anywhere but on a bike saddle right now! This could get messy.

Alongside me for approximately 3 minutes before he disappears into the distance will be my usual partner in stupidity. Richard Etherington Smith, and to add to the fun Paul Cragg is also joining us for his first Ironman.

I'm doing this in memory of Andy Burks who left this world far too early. He won't ever know that he had such an influence on me. My first real boss and a great guy, although he wasn't very good at Foosball. If you're looking in Andy, I owe you a rematch.

Unrelated to Andy, I've chosen cancer support as too many people that I know have been impacted by the dreadful disease and Macmillan make a difference. I'm fortunate enough to be able to make the decision to suffer for a day in Wales. Some people are far less fortunate.

Thank you for choosing to support me and Macmillan Cancer Support. Just so you know, 30% of the sponsorship that I collect (up to the cost of my entry fee) will be reimbursed. This means that Macmillan receives 70% or more of my sponsorship.

Reimbursing 30% of my sponsorship (up to the cost of my entry fee) is a safe way of fundraising for the charity as it can be cheaper than the cost of a charity package! If you have any questions about my fundraising or why your donations may be used in this way, please don't hesitate to contact Macmillan directly at triathlon@macmillan.org.uk.
