Story

Hi everyone thanks for visiting my donation page.

I have chosen this charity because scoliosis has affected my family, there are many forms of scoliosis but the one that has affected 3 of my children is idiopathic scoliosis which only develops only in teenagers.

There is no quick fix for this condition there is years of X-rays, Physio, follow ups, wearing back brace 23 hrs a day and watching for changes. This is all going on at a awkward stage of there life's when really they should be worrying only about school stuff ect.

Then the day comes the consultant (WHO WAS AMAZING) says the curveture in the back is so bad that an oparation is the only option and that if we didn't go a head there organs could be crushed.

Am not gonna bore you with all the details but within 6 weeks my eldest daughter was in major surgery to have spinal fusion using titanium rods and screws done her full spine from her neck to her lowest point of her back.(Spine fusion surgery videos can be viewed online). It took 6 month even before she could attend school part time.

6 months = learning to walk again, building her strength up, Accepting not being able to bend or have natural movement in her spine again.

Basically all the above we have gone through with our oldest son, and at the moment with our other daughter we are at the watching stage hoping she doesn't need to go through with the operation.

This surgery has saved my children's life's and I can't fault the NHS team who have helped them through this and the quality of the surgery but there surgery is fixed causing ristrictions in life. But like everything there's is advaced technology and surgeons are using moveable magnetic technology in the spine so it doesn't restrict movement or growth. This type of surgery is so exspensive it isn't readily available  on the NHS even though I think it should be so children can be children

So this is me making others aware of this condition and how money can help children's like ours cope better in  life with more choice of how to deal with there condition.
