Country to Capital Ultra 2015 · 17 January 2015 ·

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can get the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are there when it matters.

Story

At only 42 a good friend of mine (Richard) was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Richard was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading during late summer 2014. This facility is funded by Sue Ryder. The care and support they offered Richard and his family was second to none.

I never really thought much about Sue Ryder until I witnessed first hand the amazing work they do. Sadly, Richard passed away in November 2014.

I was able to talk to Richard about this Ultra Marathon, and with his support we agreed that I would do so to benefit the Hospice. The fact that Richard knew that I was going to do this run, really does make it very special to me.

So this is my way of thanking the charity and staff who cared so dearly for Richard.

In addition to simply sponsoring me, i'm also asking you (if you're a chap) to get yourself down to the doctors for a simple PSA blood test, which can indicate prostate issues. If you're a lady, maybe you can nag the chaps you know into doing this....

As for me, I only started running two years ago...i've never done a marathon...so why not skip that distance and head straight to an ultra?

January 17th.... 45 miles... for Sue Ryder with all donations going to the Duchess of Kent Hospice and local Sue Ryder initiatives.

In memory of someone i'm proud to have called a mate, Richard Field.
