Story
Hi there!
Given it has now been 12 months since we have been able to run a face to face fundraiser, I am raising funds for Kickstart Kids International by attempting to summit the technical mountaineering peaks of Mt Kenya called Nelion (5,188m) and Batien (5,199m). Training started last month with a trek to the third highest peak of Mt Kenya, Point Lenana (4,985m) and now I am going for the big ones on 11th February! After a few days of hiking, the final day will start before dawn, crossing a glacier, then 8 hours of technical mountaineering and climbing to Nelion, a further three hours with ice-axes and crampons to traverse the 'gate of mist' to Batian, followed by a three hour decent back to the high camp. While approximately 15,000 people summitted the Lenana hiking peak last year, only about 200 summitted Nelion and 50 summitted Batian. A lot will depend on the weather! I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small to help us continue our work of the last 13 years to support orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya.
