In memory of James Austin
Willow is the only UK charity supporting seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds by providing unique and positive Special Days. Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 22,000 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and cystic fibrosis.

Story

James was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumour on the 15th March 2016. After standard treatment of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy he had 5 years of stable mri scans. 

He was put in touch with the Willow Foundation who gave him a special day. 

Willow is the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged between 16 and 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days. Founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper and TV presenter, Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, Willow is a lasting memory to their daughter Anna, who died of cancer aged 31.Each Special Day provides a positive experience to be shared with a partner, parents, siblings, children or close friends. To date, Willow has provided more than 17,500 Special Days for young adults diagnosed with a life threatening condition.

James was given the special day of his choice, a trip to Anfield and Melwood to meet the players and Jurgen Klopp. It was a day James talked about and never forgot. 

On the 12th April, James had a reoccurrence Glioblastoma. He had a second surgery, underwent chemotherapy but sadly died on the 1st November 2021. 

In lieu of flowers James’ family have asked that a donation be made to the Willow Foundation in his memory.
