London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·
Ok, so here we go again.
Some years ago, I was introduced to a special little boy named Ollie. I didn't realise at the time but this little guy would change my entire out look on life. Because Ollie suffered from a complicated and very rare illness named Menkes Syndrome
"Never heard of it" I hear you say.
The reason for this is that it is very rare and because of this it gets very little media attention, which means it gets very little funding. Menkes is a metabolic disorder which affects little boys from birth. It is degenerative and claims young lives normally within their first ten years.
Children with Menkes often have very complex care needs requiring 24hr a day love and attention. Today as I write this there is no cure and the diagnosis will often come too late for any effective treatment to take place.
Ollie was a true fighter, he inspired many people to do a lot of incredible things which was another blessing that his life bestowed on the world. However he sadly lost his battle with Menkes in April 2016 aged 8.
Now I am not kidding myself to think that running a marathon will change the world, but what I do know is that every single penny raised will go towards helping another little boy who is fighting against Menkes every day. Maybe pay towards his care, allow him to spend a day doing something he loves, or even assist his family whilst they face their own daily challenge alongside their child.
This is where I need your support, please please please take the time to sponsor me. Everyone says this, but i genuinely mean it. EVERY PENNY COUNTS.
Just two more things, please don't forget to click the Gift Aid button and also remember to leave your name so I can thank you personally.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
