Story
We are raising money to support the Paediatric Hip Reconstruction & Foot Service (9301) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Our youngest daughter, Grace, was diagnosed with hip dysplasia just before her second birthday.
Mr Rehm & his team at Addenbrooke’s worked incredibly hard with Grace to correct her hip and teach her how to walk again. During the two operations, various physio sessions and follow-up care, Grace has received the best treatment from Mr Rehm's team and just like any other six year old, she now leads a very active life.
In 2011 we have decided to do a number of fund-raising events to support the amazing work that Mr Rehm & his team perform. As well as various smaller events such as 10km runs, half-marathons, & long distance bike rides, the main aim for me is to complete the 2011 Embrun Ironman in Hautes-Alpes, France on 15th August.
The Embrun Ironman has been going for over 25 years and is arguably the toughest Ironman in Europe. I have done a number of triathlons in the last two years, but these have only taken a few hours, the Embrun Ironman is a very different beast - if you finish, this can take 17 hours...
The event consists of a 3.8 km swim in Lac d’Embrun, 188 km bike ride (with over 5,000m of mountain climbs, including Col D’Izard) & a 42 km run. The Col d’Izard climb was once part of the Tour de France until they apparently decided the descent was too dangerous!
