I made the decision a couple of months ago to apply for the Great Manchester Run.  Since I was unsuccessful in the direct ballot, I've had to opt for a charity place to be able to take part.

I decided to join The Alzheimer's Society, a cause close to my own heart, having had the unfortunate experience of the disease with my late Grandfather.  To lose a person that you love bit by bit, as their memories and their personality slips away, until eventually you feel like a stranger to part of your own family, is one of the saddest feelings I've ever had to endure.

So it's a very worthy cause, and I hope that between that, and your desire to see me put 10km on the clock (and then collapse) you can see fit to donate whatever you can afford.  I'll be very grateful, and I'll keep you up to date via Facebook how I'm doing with training and ultimately, how I got on in the Great Manchester 10k itself.  Who knows, maybe I'll become addicted and apply for more events...
