Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. For those that don't know me and my family i would like to share my brother Alan's story. My brother Alan suffered from a rare disease called Acquired Autoimmune Neutropenia. This disease meant that his body struggled to fight off infections and even a simple cold could be deadly. He spent a lot of his life in and out of hospitals whenever he got viral and bacteria infections, and over time his body slowly stopped being able to fight them off at all. Alan was a very happy upbeat little boy and even in the days when he was really poorly and bed-bound he would still be able to manage a smile. He loved learning to play guitar and was a fan of Chas and Dave who he met a few times over the years. My mum lived with him in the hospital and never left his side. She nursed and cared for him day in day out and remembering that, everyday makes me immensely proud of her. She was always so strong for Alan and for me and my sister even though it must have been breaking her heart everyday to know one day his tiny little body would succumb to this horrible disease. I remember the day when my mum and dad told me Alan was going to die so vividly even though i was only 8 years old at the time. That memory will be with me forever. Alan passed away in my mothers arms in may 1990, he was just 10 years old. This year in December it would have been his 40th birthday and so i wanted to do something to honor his memory and mark this milestone that he never got to reach. So here i am, asking for donations from family, friends and complete strangers to show support as i embark on a 5 day challenge in arctic conditions. I will be trekking in snow shoes, on skis and even sledding with husky’s as well as spending a night in the wilderness along with the wolves! I'm doing this challenge not only to honor my brothers memory but to raise money for PID uk which is a charity that is specific to autoimmune diseases. They offer support to patients and their families who are living with these sort of immune diseases. Please, please, please donate whatever you can no matter how little and help me reach my target of £2,300.
