Walking the Camino Way · 19 August 2012

We are creating a world where no one faces pregnancy or pregnancy loss alone. Through our services, we help 70,000 people each year meet pregnancy or pregnancy loss with courage and dignity so they can flourish.

Story

I have supported Life as a volunteer counsellor for ten years now. I counsel people facing crisis pregancy and those who are suffering following the loss of a pregnancy. Life is a caring organisation that exists to support those in need.  I am currently the Care Officer for the Stratford Life branch.  In addition to counselling we support people by providing free pregnancy tests, baby equipment and baby clothes. Life is a national organisation which also provides an education service for schools and colleges, a Fertilitycare programme and housing for pregnant women who have nowhere to live.  I have seen first hand how LIFE has made a real difference to the lives of babies and their families and I feel privileged to be a part of that.

When my friends John and Betty Fleetwood asked me to join them on the Camino Walk, I jumped at the chance as I had promised myself I would do this walk/pilgrimage when I retired and while I was still reasonably fit and healthy!!!!  SO.... here we are..ready to start!!

Bernadette May, another good friend,  makes up our party of four. We have all been training hard for months walking in all weathers and terrains!!  The Camino Frances is a traditional pilgrimage route, starting at St Jean Pied de Port, in France and finishing at Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.  There are approximately 500 miles to walk, initially travelling across the Pyrenees and walking along marked tracks and roads.

We will stay at pilgrims' albergues, which offer basic accomodation, along the way, which offer basic accomodation.  We aim to travel light as we are carrying our rucksacks all the way.  This adventure begims on 28th August and finishes on 17th October.
