Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, WE did it!

A  BIG THANK YOU AND GRATEFUL HUGS TO EVERYONE WHO KINDLY SPONSORED MYSELF AND ALLTHE OTHER PARTICIPANTS.

Clearly the £1000 target I set myself to raise was overly ambitious, being a last-minute candidate for this. So, if I am invited to take part again, I shall start promoting the event a lot earlier.   Every penny helps, and I am glad my participation has contributed to the cause.

Thanks to everyone who recognizes the great service provided
by MCTC and, additionally, who encouraged me by sponsoring me.

I was surprised at how anxious I became in the last couple of days, and hours, before this event.  I hadn't been giving it a lot of thought because I had been busy with other things and suddenly - the day has arrived, and it's happening!

I experienced some very intense physical symptoms of anxiety, like 'POUNDING HEART' (It felt about to explode), shaking knees, dry
mouth, brain shut-down. But, you will be glad to hear that I never once
considered backing out - not when over the years I have repeated the book title phrase 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' more times (and to as many people) than I can shake a stick at.   When I climbed the ladder onto the platform and stood before the instructor Ian, from Pennine
Events, and admitted that I felt like crying, he just smiled and said "Na,
you'll be fine."  I believed him.  Well, why wouldn't I be fine?  The rest can be seen on the video that Angela took.  I think it's on the MCTC Facebook page.

Lynne and I set off down the cathedral and within moments of stepping off the platform I realized this will be over in less than 5 minutes and I decided to enjoy it - which I did. I am so glad to have taken part and will be very happy to do it again.

Please support this wonderful charity.  I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't know just how really important the service is to the people of Merseyside.  The people who come to MCTC are those who often have chronic  and long-term mental health conditions.  Our country's health service is unable to meet the needs of people who will only benefit from long-term support.  At MCTC no one is pushing the clients to get better and get on with their lives although, ultimately, that is what is what we hope they will feel able to do - but in their own time and their own way.  We are all individuals and MCTC therapists have the greatest respect for individuality.    It does not matter what circumstances have brought a person to the Center.  It is the 'person' who matters.

I been involved with the center for just over two years and I feel honored to have the opportunity to work with clients in a deep way and not have a manager on my back pushing me to get people fixed and move them on.

The ethos at MCTC is one of love, compassion, patience and sincere valuing of the people who use the service.  Every life is precious!

I am quite nervous about doing this.  I abseiled a quarry face around 30 years ago.  Knowing that people are supporting me to help MCTC will carry me through this.  Thank you in advance for your wonderful and generous donations.  Wish me luck!
