Story
In 2009 I needed support to help me get through having cancer. This is about saying THANK YOU and giving something back. Please consider sponsoring me to raise awareness and funds for the new Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in Brighton.
In January 2009 I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After surgery, chemotherapy, amazing care from health care professionals and incredible support from my family and friends, I am well, enjoying my job and loving life.
My dream back then in 2009 was reach 50, create a garden and see my son Ben graduate from medical school.
Five years on my consultants tell me I am cured. It all seems so unreal, and is almost as unbelievable as being diagnosed in the first place. The reality is wonderful. I feel truly blessed and so very, very, grateful. Ben should graduate as a doctor in July, I am 50+ and the garden is still getting there!
What I now want to do is to say a big thank you for the care I have received and give something back. I now have the opportunity which will allow me to do just that – a 9 day adventure trekking through the Jordan desert to Petra!
The trek has been designed to raise awareness and crucial funds for the running of the new Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in Brighton.
Construction work has already begun and this exciting new facility will open in 2015 offering an exceptional level of care and support to cancer patients and their families so that no one in Sussex has to face cancer alone. It is a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support, the Sussex Cancer Fund and the Brighton and Hove NHS University Trust which has been made possible through public support.
I am self-funding the cost of the trek which means every single penny I raise will go directly to the cause. My target is to raise £3,000 this year.
