For those of you who don't know me, a quick intro to me and my reasons for taking on this challenge.

My Name is Janet Pfeiffer and am a 69 year old retiree with one lung and  have been fighting 5 types of cancer.

I currently live with my daughter & grandson in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire and she has been caring for me throughout my treatment whilst carrying out her busy career as a Science Teacher at the local Science College.

In late 2013, I was diagnosed with very rare neuro-endocrine cancer in the lung and lymphatic cancer. BOGOF ( Buy One Get One Free) .The tumours in the lung were growing much faster than the Consultants expected and my only option for survival was to have a full pneumonectomy of the right lung. In May 2014 my right lung was removed. It was only after the surgery that they noticed I actually had two types of cancers in the lung. My family were never one to do things by half and love a bargain so an extra buy one get one free on the cancer seemed about right.!!

I was well on the road to recovery after surgery and my lymphatic cancer was  indolent(sleeping)  so nothing major to worry about .. or so I thought. A later routine scan to check on my progress showed that part of the Lymphatic cancer had become aggressive and changed into a new type of cancer and again my life expectancy plummeted to 12 months or less. This time it was chemotherapy. I underwent a 6 month course of chemotherapy losing my signature mass of red hair in the process.

At the end of this treatment my cancer was on the borderline of being in remission, and again I was on the way back to health, even my hair was regrowing; white this time mind. That was until another scan showed 3 tumours on the liver. These are the original lung tumours that have metastasised.  My prognosis isn't great although I may have the chance to have a liver resection (a major operation where several sections of the liver are removed). If this is the case surgery will be in late September.

I may not be able to have surgery due to my lack of lung function but if I can I will need a fair amount of time to recover and my cancer(s) are more than likely to come back.

I have decided to take control of my life and take on this challenge, ( I promised myself I would do when first diagnosed) before my possible surgery and worsening health.

It has been a long hard slog to get to this point but hope that with your support I can raise money for Cancer Research UK so that their continued research can help all those with cancer in the future.

Please don't feel sorry for me, there are so many more worse off than me. I have been lucky enough to have had a full and varied life. I have the support of my two lovely children, my grandson and his friends, plus a network of supportive friends that span the UK, from my new home in Northamptonshire, those on the London Underground  and Westminster's Register Office to those across the world in America, Europe and Japan, whom I will always consider family.
