My name is Bill Weaver and I am aged 82 . I live in Garndiffaith in Torfaen. I am going to have my hair and beard shaved to raise funds for the Dementia Research Institute at Cardiff University. My wife died from dementia two years ago and I had been her carer.

 I have had my head shaved twice before and raised over £3000 for this important research.      I have visited the Institute and seen for myself  the research that is done there.

I also started a support group in 2019 for people with dementia and their carers in Blaenavon and I arranged singing, dancing lessons and art activities.
The haircut will take place this December at Pontypool Park bandstand. Although this can’t be well-supportedthis year, due to COVID restrictions, my  dementia friends and some musical friends will be there - all socially distanced. My  last head shave for charity was on Halloween 2018 my hair and beard are now very long. This event had been planned for last March and would have included a talk from a representative of Cardiff University but had to be cancelled due to lockdown.

Sadly, Bill was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and he passed away on 9.3.21.
