Janine's Help to fund Luci's operation

Help to fund Luci's operation · 16 February 2022

We run a 5-star cat shelter within Athens, where we provide a safe sanctuary for sick, injured, or malnourished street cats in need of our help. After providing them with the necessary veterinary treatment, we rehome these animals internationally through our global adoptions programme. Furthermore, we also hold various TNR programmes, stray feeding programmes, and education events to help improve the welfare of animals both in our surrounding area, and globally. Let's be S.M.A.R.T aims to educate communities about the importance of animals, by raising awareness for their rights, well-being, and care. We focus on bringing communities together to promote responsible care of animals through the organization of events for both children and adults. Let's be S.M.A.R.T. hopes to foster the practice of understanding and compassion with animals. We believe in thinking globally while acting locally, and we strive to support special projects throughout the world as they arise. We are dedicated to working toward positive global animal welfare. Our inspiration comes from Mahatma Gandhi who said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Story

On one of my daily walks with my dog, I spotted a cat on top of a dustbin.
She seemed to be in a strange position, she was neither sitting nor lying.
I looked at her and saw that her eyes were half closed and she looked like she was in pain!

I went closer and suddenly saw a big piece of reddish flesh, hanging out her rear end!

I was so horrified and obviously knew that I couldn't possibly ignore what I had just seen and had to get her medical assistance!

The piece of reddish flesh hanging out was her intestine!

Luci has been operated on and thank goodness the op was successful.

Luci was also sterilized during the procedure, as it was a good opportunity to do it, since she is a stray

Luci is now recovering nicely, but is extremely scared.

She required a course of antibiotics and she needs at least a week of confinement for her cut and stitches to heal well from the operation, before being released back on the streets.

I currently have five rescued animals of my own and I personally fund the feeding and on-going medical care of 30 stray cat,  in Varkiza and Voulaigmeni, on a daily basis.

I am therefore not personally able to finance the cost of Luci's medical bill and desperately need assistance after helping Luci.
