Race my Pace · 1 July 2020
We’ve been inspired by your good will and generosity towards
Hull Truck during this time. It’s so heartening to see people share our
passion for connecting people together through great theatre.
Of course this emergency has taken a lot away from us.
But we’re keen to move beyond thinking just about survival towards
rebuilding our future - a vision for producing work that’s alive and vital.
So in the run up to marking 50 years of Hull Truck's incredible contribution to the City, and with both of us celebrating our birthdays a day apart in July (Janthi's is a big one!), we thought we’d do our bit to raise some vital funds to secure our future. So between the 1st-31st July, as joint CEOs of Hull Truck Theatre, Janthi will be running 50 miles and Mark will be biking 50 Miles, recording their process and miles on Race at your Pace. We've also now added two more Hull Truck Team members and Emma will be Horse-riding and Danielle skating 50 miles.
'Because I’m passionate about Hull Truck Theatre, our team, our community, our artists, I want to run 50 miles to DO something physical in a time where we can't be physically present in our home. To ensure we protect it and can be there to celebrate our 50th birthday in Hull Truck Theatre in 21-22. Running (alongside theatre) is my escape mechanism and for so many the theatre is a community hub, a lifeline to another world and Mark and I will be doing everything we can to protect it during this difficult time to ensure we can come back stronger, to tell and hear stories that enrich all our lives.' Janthi Mills-Ward
The Hull Truck Theatre family means a great deal to me - its staff, its supporters, the communities and artists past present and future who make wonderful life affirming work that bring us all joy. These are all precious and important things to fight for, and alongside Janthi, I am totally committed to doing all I can to make our collective future one which we can all be proud of. In these days where we have had to remain apart, cycling has been my way of keeping up my momentum and energy, generating new thoughts and ideas of how we can remain an important part of people’s lives. As we move into this next phase of our journey, both Janthi and I want to re-affirm our commitment to building a vibrant, safe and welcoming creative hub for all our communities to enjoy” Mark Babych
