The Banger rally challenge is leaving the Cornwall Hotel St Austell at 6pm on the 20th September, the only stipulation in the challenge is that the car must cost under £500 and we have a 15 year old 240 merc so fingers crossed we make it! The first check point will be Plymouth where we board the Roscoff Ferry and head over to France. From this point on "Who Knows" where we will be headed, the only thing we are sure of is that our destination is Barcelona. The reason that we are not sure of the route is because the organisers are very "Topgearesque" and each day the drivers and their cars are set various challenges for the day, these challenges are a very closely guarded secret and the organisers have not let anything slip.

To give you a feel for it last year the Banger Rally Challenge was "Monte Carlo or Bust" and upon their arrival in Calais the drivers were presented with envelopes where they were instructed to have a Photo taken with the car and a Calais daily newspaper at "Lake Geneva!", another day when they were in Lyon was to do a circuit on the roof of the Fiat Factory in Turin. So as you can see it will not just be a straight forward trip to Barcelona.

We will be updating facebook all the way so that Friends and family can follow our progress along the way.

It is our aim to raise £2000 for Rays of Sunshine, Rays of Sunshine grant wishes to poorly children some with life limiting illness's and some with life long illness's, and hopefully with the help of the amusement industry we can make this happen, I operate arcades myself and am aware of the state of the industry but having seen the Rays of sunshine short film and having met some of the wish children I feel this is a very worthy cause.

Amanda and I attended the Parliamentary evening in aid of Rays of Sunshine hosted by Don Foster recently and saw there a pile of "Wishes", the idea was that you could take a wish and make it happen for a child and their family, these wishes did not cost the earth and it is lovely to actually see where the donations go, an example was at a recent National Council meeting there was a "Wish" to send a small boy who had a life limiting illness and his family to the Silverstone F1 and this would cost £500, there were 25 people that day at the meeting and each threw in £20 and made that wish happen.

As an industry with Fun at its heart I hope that we can raise the money and give some fun to some of these children so please sponsor us in the Barcelona Banger Rally Challenge! Thanks Jason.

 

Just a quick update, www.bangerrallychallenge.co.uk is the site for the rally and at the tabs at the top of the page there is one marked "Tracking", if you click this you will have a map and can click on our car "Frankly Frosted" car number 17 and you can see our progress on the map live during the rally. There is also a film crew travelling with the rally and they can also be found on the site.
