Virgin London Marathon 2016 · 24 April 2016 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Family and Friends, This April, Along with my good friend Chris Derry, I'll be running the London Marathon - something I've wanted to do for a long time. As much as I love tearing around London listening to filthy Drum and Bass, it's not going to be easy. For an extra bit of motivation and to make it all the more worth while we'll be doing it to raise money for Parkinson's UK. Parkinson's diseases is a condition my grandma has suffered with for close to 10 years and so is a cause close to my heart. It affects about 1/500 people, which means that it's unfortunately quite likely that  someone you know of will suffer from it at some point in their lives. The symptoms are pretty terrible and become progressively worse with time. (more info here - http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/content/what-parkinsons)Without going into too much detail, while you remain completely fine in mind, your body movements become slower as the disease worsens so it takes longer to do everyday things. As it progresses, this can mean hours during a day where you are effectively paralysed and trapped in your body. Something my grandma dealt with each day for several years. There is currently no cure for Parkinson's disease and while treatments are available to help relieve the symptoms life for those with it can be very tough. The Charity, Parkinsons UK,  helps families by providing expert information on every aspect of Parkinson's so that people affected by the condition can stay in control of their lives, They also lead, influence and fund research to ensure new and better treatments in years, rather than decades so that hopefully future generations will not have to go through a condition that can ruin later life. We'll be aiming to do the race in under 4 hours. Please sponsor what you can and we promise to run as fast as we can in return. Thanks & Love, Jase & Derry
