Jason's London Marathon 2019 page - running against cancer

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
2012 was a big year with the Olympics returning to London! 2012 was a big year for me too - my graduation and the year I started my fight against cancer.
I remember spending most of my days in front of the telly at the hospital cheering for Team GB accompanied by my chemo bag dripping intense liquids into my system which kills good and bad cells alike. I felt sick and tired most days, the Olympics was definitely a wonderful distraction.
Distractions, as its name suggests - can only last so long and harsh reality soon kicked in. Like other fellow fighters, uncertainty is a major stress factor especially among young adults. This, coupled with a bad breakup with an ex girlfriend, made the whole cancer journey unbearable. I fell into depression...
I have met so many people in my cancer fight who most definitely deserve a gold medal, other fellow fighters, the nurses, the doctors and CLIC Sargent. If it had not been for CLIC Sargent, I would not have survived. They gave me a temporary home close to the hospital, and I had two social and youth workers, who were there for me when I needed them. From sorting out the logistical challenge of moving homes, to liaising with KPMG to arrange for a deferment of my graduate programme, they have been there at critical moments to support me and my family. When I was experiencing a period of emotional turmoil and sheer loss, they were there, quietly listening...
Unfortunately, 1/3 of children and young people with cancer in the UK are not as lucky. I am raising money to help CLIC Sargent's efforts to reach out to these children and young people with cancer and in memory of certain fighters I have met on my journey. I know they are the brightest stars in the sky and I will bear the torch for them and help those who are still fighting the battle - to thrive not just survive.
Please help where you can to support my cause!
Thank you in anticipation.
