We introduce children to golf to create more golfers for the future.

Story

2017 marks the ten-year anniversary since Dad was sadly suddenly take from us at the age of 72. We have discussed doing something as a family this year to mark the occasion and celebrate his life. We have come up with the idea of climbing Snowdon as close as possible to his birthday (20th May).

North Wales was an area Dad held dear to his heart. As a child, he was evacuated to Criccieth during the war. He returned many times over the years to Wales to play golf and compete in the Gold Cross competition at Royal St David’s, Harlech, which he was fortunate to win six times. As a family, we holidayed twice a year in Harlech throughout the seventies. On one holiday in 1980, on a non-golf day, Dad thought it would be a good idea if we climbed Snowdon together. I was eleven at the time, my sister, Sophie, was nine. The climb started well enough until we encountered the first gate out of the car park upon which my sister decided the top was far too ambitious for a nine-year-old. So we left
her in the car with book, a bottle of coke and a packet of crisps. Dad, Mum and myself set off again leaving her behind. Something that would be very much frowned upon today. We summited and returned to the carpark to find her very content with having avoided a long walk.

Thirty-Seven years on Sophie would very much like to prove to the Old Man that she can make it to the top and we think he will have a good chuckle to himself as we struggle up the mountain. It will be the perfect place to raise a toast to him , rekindle some happy memories and give thanks for the time we enjoyed together.

Whilst we are not planning on breaking any records on our ascent, we thought we would set up a Just Giving page and see if we could raise a little bit of money for charity from our efforts. Dad was extremely passionate about the game of golf and anything related to youth development. The Golf Foundation with its focus on helping young people enjoy the benefits of playing and personal benefits of golf, is a fitting and apt charity.
