Story
In 2006 my Dad first got cancer. Bowel cancer. He had part of his intestine removed and soldiered on - that was his way. In 2010 he contracted pneumonia, and upon treating this the doctors found he had cancer of the left lung. The lung came out and my Dad just kept going - it's what he did. In February 2012 he developed a cough. In March 2012 he went into hospital and never came out. On 22nd April 2012, he died. He was only 70.
My Dad touched hundred's of lives. His family, friends, work colleagues - he was loved by all. He never complained of his plight, never moaned, never said "Why me?". His only thoughts in his final days were to make sure I looked after my Mum and my Sister. It's what he kept asking me to do.
I want to carry on my Dad's goodwill by trying to raise some much needed funds for Cancer Research. We all know of their work, and we probably all know someone who has suffered with, maybe even died from, cancer. Help me help them find a cure for this terrible disease that can rip through an otherwise healthy individual in no time at all.
So I'm doing a triathlon. Anyone who know me knows I don't do exercise. At all. But do you know what? The 750m swim, the 20k bike ride and the 5k run will be nothing compared to what my Dad had to endure in the last 6 years of his life. I will be thinking of him all the way around, and especially when it hurts most.
If you can spare anything at all, even a few pence, it will be most gratefully received. Donate in the memory of my Dad, donate for my efforts around Sutton Park on 21st July, or donate in the memory of someone you might have lost through cancer.
I promise I will give my all, and I thank each and every one of you for reading this.
