Story
.Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues,
Like a good Spaniard / South American, I have always regarded all forms of sport as a waste of perfectly good drinking time.
In this spirit, I have taken up running a few years ago and 6 months later completed the London Marathon. This time I am stepping up the challenge to Mallorca IronMan 70.3 Having not swam outside kids pools and not been on a bike for a good part of 5 years when Ethan was born, the challenge is certainly going to be interesting!. For those who are unfamiliar with the Ironman 70.3, it is a triathlon that includes a 1.9km swim, a 90 km bike ride and a half marathon run…it’s going to be a long day!
It has been a very exciting time for me the last six months trying to prepare hard for this alongside everything else, family, work and all the travelling. Maya and the kids have been hugely supportive and I promised that if I did go ahead with the triathlon I will do it in support of a charity of their choice. Woman’s Trust is a fantastic charity which Maya has been supporting and which provides mental health services for women affected by domestic violence. Here I share with you a few of the horrific and shocking facts around domestic violence:
- Two women are killed every week due to domestic violence in the UK
- Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten
- One in four women will experience domestic violence at some time in her life
- One incident is reported to the police every minute! And on average, a woman is assaulted 35 times before her first call to the police
The race is tomorrow Sunday May 9th. I would be extremely grateful if you can donate to this noble cause. Your generosity would definitely inspire me to cross the finish line but more importantly help a lot of women make positive choices for themselves and live free from domestic violence and abuse.
