Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

When I signed up for the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (swim 1.5 km, cycle 100km, run 10km) in June 2010, it was with the aim of getting back to fitness and losing the baby weight after having Jake.

Over the last 6 months of training I have learnt a lot of lessons, some of them as simple as, it is sensible to learn how to clip out of  bike pedals before riding in a busy area, elastic lock laces really do speed up transitions and socks are not a necessity..........however I have also had to learn how to juggle/ balance training with, life, husband, children, work, friends...the list is endless and though I have made some great new friends, training usually means getting up before 5 am just so I can fit everything in, and at that time of the day I find myself asking is it worth it?

Which is the question that brought me here, and the decision to try to raise some money for the British Heart Foundation.

Eight and a half years ago my Dad, aged 47, had major heart surgery, not because he was unfit, overweight a smoker or a big drinker, but because he was genetically predisposed to having high cholesterol which with the stress of work and life led to a heart attack. My dad was one of the “lucky” ones, he had surgery, recovered and rehabilitated well and 2 years on was trekking through the jungles of Vietnam for charity.

The BHF do an amazing job in supporting people who suffer with heart and circulation disease, and the research they do in prevention, treatment, recovery and rehabilitation means my Dad is still around and should be for a long while yet.

My Dad is monitored regularly and has the occasional blip, he had one very recently, and living so far away when that happens I worry and wonder a lot about the what if’s....but my dad is determined and never gives up, my mum doesn’t let him!! He is a man of his word and when he commits to something sees it through, I love my Dad and think he is amazing, and so, when I am scrabbling around in the dark trying to find the right kit at 5 am, my Dad is my inspiration to get moving and finish what I started by crossing the finishing line on the 12th March.

Please sponsor me and make this journey and the pain of 111.5 km really mean something.

Thank- you so so much!!!

P.S. Today is the 13th March and yesterday I crossed the finishing line in 5 hours and 45 minutes, am completely jiggered but feel amazing......xxxxxxxxx
