Shelter is one of a number of fantastic charities trying to address the national housing emergency. At this time of year as it gets colder it is especially important that the thousands of people sleeping rough across the UK get as much assistance and support as they can. There are also six million households today in the UK at risk of losing their homes.

Shelter provide vital advice and support to those who are at risk of losing their homes and those who are homeless. They also offer free legal advice and attend court to help people who've lost their homes or are facing eviction. Last year they gave advice to 44,134 households and thanks to their help 36,000 households saw a positive change in their housing situation.

Shelter spend 79p of every £1 raised on helping people directly and 21p on fundraising.
