On Friday 29 September, I will be on the start line of one of the toughest ultramarathons in the world. The Spartathlon is a 153 mile (246 km) race held annually in Greece starting at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, to Sparta. As if the near 6 back to back marathons in 30+ degree heat wasn't challenging enough, or the 1200m mountain I need to scale after 100 miles, the race has a strict 36 hour cut off.

I am fundraising for the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Watford General Hospital who provided such amazing care to my son Toby when he was born in March this year. He spent a week in the SCBU and it was naturally a very stressful time for our family but the care we received from the neonatal team was first class.

The SCBU is not fully funded by the NHS and needs valuable funds to keep the service going - I am confident that any amount I raise, however small, will make a big difference to this amazing place.
