We provide palliative & end of life care to patients & carers, North & East Cumbria

Story

Mum died at home on 15 September 2018. During her last week she needed injections to control sudden and horrifying pain, as the tumor destroyed her thigh bone. During the day local nurses came, but out of hours the NHS cover is reduced to a county wide on-call service. Pain relief could be over an hour away.
Hospice at Home, a charity, provides end of life care so people can die at home. We had a nurse for the last 4 nights of Mum's life so that pain relief was on hand. This bought comfort to us all.
It costs £152 per night for Hospice at Home to provide a nurse. By running the Great North Run, I aim to raise the equivalent of 4 nights care (£608) to 'pay back' the care we received and contribute to the continuation of this vital service.
