I was lucky enough to obtain a place in the London Marathon through the ballot, therefore, I could choose any charity to raise money for. 

Please read the below story from a parent in my son’s class and you will understand why I chose Stargardt’s Connected as my chosen charity:- 

Bhavna's son Ethan was diagnosed with a rare degenerative eye condition called Stargardt’s Disease in 2015 when he was just 7 years old- they had gone to the optician’s thinking he needed glasses, and few weeks later found out he was going blind. It was a huge shock having never heard of the condition, and she was completely devastated.  

Stargardt’s Disease causes progressive central vision loss and those affected will have problems with reading, watching TV and recognising faces. There is no current treatment or cure. 

Helplessly watching her son go blind is heartbreaking but Bhavna wanted to do something positive and so set up the charity Stargardt’s Connected in 2019. The aims are to raise awareness, support the community and raise funds for research. They are the first and only solely Stargardt's charity in the U.K.

Ethan has such positive outlook on life and does not let his condition get the better of him.  

He plays all kind of sports, loves cooking and actually went skiing with the school this year. 

I was due to run the marathon in October, however I fractured by foot and deferred my place until April, therefore training has been tough, but I am determined to finish the marathon and hopefully raise lots of money and awareness for this incredible charity.
