In memory of Martin Wylie

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

The three of us (Steven Reilly, Gary Hunter and Jacob Hawthorn) are running the Helvellyn Triathlon on the 1st of September this year to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of our school friend Martin Wylie. Martin passed away in 2008 following a battle with a form of bone cancer called osteosarcoma, leaving behind a loving family and a huge circle of friends - especially in Jedburgh where he went to school and Edinburgh where he was studying at Napier Uni. This website was set up by his sister Kathryn, to remember Martin: http://martinwylie.co.uk/index.html.

The triathlon takes place in the Lake District and involves a 1 mile swim, 38 mile cycle and a 9 mile run up Helvellyn - England's 3rd highest peak. If you're interested you can read all about it here: http://www.trihard.co.uk/Helvellyn/Helvellynhome.htm. Apparently it's the only UK-based race in 'Triathlete Europe's Top 10 Toughest Races on The Planet' which sounds absolutely terrifying.

Our charity of choice, Teenage Cancer Trust, builds specialist units for teenagers with cancer in NHS hospitals and is a charity dear to Martin's family following the support they provided Martin. Find out much more at http://www.teenagecancertrust.org/.

Any donations would be hugely appreciated - as the saying goes, no amount is too small. We'll be entering a world of pain for a great cause, in memory of an ever greater person.

Thanks a lot,

Steve, Gary and Jake.
