My story so far...

I joined a gym at the beginning of 2016, unable to run even for a minute on the treadmill without getting completely out of breath. With support and motivation from my fellow gym goers (who also happen to be my colleagues who encouraged me to sign up to the gym when it felt like a very daunting place indeed!), I found myself entering the Bristol 10k and was delighted to cross the line on 15th May in under 56mins after 4 months of hard training.  The logical next step (obviously!) was to enter a half marathon and I have somehow talked myself into entering both the Bristol and Glasgow half marathons...despite them being only one week apart!

Training is getting tougher now as the distances increase and whilst I'm not aiming for a specific time to get around the courses (completing both races will be an achievement enough for me considering where I started this year!!), I would really love to be able to raise some money for a very worthwhile cause to keep me focused and motivated as I pound the streets!  I'm very lucky to be running the Bristol Half with a fab bunch of people that I have been working with over the past few years (Peter Jones, Kerry Franklin, Ash Miah, David Chandler, Ryan Nippard, Nas Bailey and James McLintic - looking forward to the post race drinks already guys!) and I will then have my oldest friend (and seasoned "proper" runner Jill Lando) beside me as I run the Glasgow Half.

Cancer Research UK is the chosen charity of the Great Scottish Half Marathon and given that is the last leg of my own personal running challenge, coupled with the fact that everyone has known someone who has battled with this horrific disease, I chose Cancer Research UK as the charity I would like to donate to.  I know you are all probably inundated with sponsorship requests on a near daily basis but if you could find it in your heart to sponsor me anything that you can spare, it would mean the world - and will certainly spur me on to complete both of these half marathons...well, that and the promise of some champers at the Glasgow finish line!!
