On the 18th of August 2009 my friend and fellow college class mate Jenne Stanfield and I (Jen Nelson), will be taking a trip to London to participate in Antony Gormley's "Fourth Plinth- living portrait" project. Jenne and I are fourth year Intermedia/Fine Art students from Edinburgh College of art. Jenne is from Motherwell and I am from Carluke Lanarkshire.
This project will allow individuals from all over the UK to be the first to attempt to make a living portrait using the people of the UK. People can apply to take their place on the plinth for an hour to sing, dance, read or even just reflect to show their personality and interests.
I (Jen Nelson) will take my place on the 18th of August at 5am until 6am in London's Trafalgar Square. Jenne will be standing below to support me and document my hours experience.
Come rain or shine I will be there wearing my St Andrews hospice t-shirt to raise money and awareness for a charity to which I am forever grateful. St Andrews hospice gave my family a lot of support when my father (Ian Fraser Nelson) was terminally ill. This is something that my family and I will never forget, so it is with great pleasure that Jenne and I will be raising funds for a such a good cause.
I have prepared a drawing project to complete during my one hour upon the fourth plinth. I aim to complete a series of six drawings in total within the hour. I will have a timer set to remind me to turn 60 degrees clockwise every ten minutes. Therefore I will turn a total of six times (360 degrees). Ten minutes will allow me to have an instant reaction upon paper, describing how I am feeling at that moment, each turn I take giving me a new view of Trafalgar Square. It will be dark when I first land on the plinth, having an interesting change of light over the hour, this will also have impact upon the six drawings.
I will also have a voice recorder on me to capture my thoughts and feelings during my experience upon the plinth.
Anyone can see me live on the plinth on the date mentioned above or can log in to www.oneandother.co.uk to see it afterwards.
Sky arts - www.skyarts.co.uk will also be supporting this project providing exclusive highlights on T.V every friday evening 7pm on Sky Arts 1 throughout the duration of this project.
I will upload photos of our trip on our return. Many thanks from Jen and Jenne xx
