KungFuture utilises the power of sport as a tool to address and reduce deep rooted social problems ranging from human trafficking to urban armed violence and other social challenges where we can have an impact. With time and consistent effort change is not only possible, it is certain to arrive.

Story

Hi Everyone, In October of this year I'll be travelling to Cambodia to set up a yoga project for a British charity that specialises in supporting particularly vulnerable children. These young children live in the notorious river slums of the capital, Phnom Penh, where violence and abuse are very much the norm.

They can't go to school and instead work the streets to provide money for their families. This in turn puts them at higher risk of harm and perpetuates the existing cycle of poverty giving them little to no employment options in the future.

Cambodia is a beautiful country that is developing at a very fast pace leaving many people, especially those that cannot read nor write, without official jobs. They fall into the margins with many families living well below the poverty line of $2 per day. This creates an extremely desperate situation where their children end up working on the streets as trash collectors to help provide food for their family. Many children of course are abandoned and left living on the streets alone and having to fend for themselves.

KungFuture is an amazing charity who believe the two most powerful drivers for change are the family and education. They provide incentives to families whose children are most at risk to get off the streets and to school were they will learn and develop in a safe fun environment.

Kung Future have identified an extremely vulnerable community that has a notorious history of trafficking and exploitation. Now they are working to give children a chance out of poverty through education. We are raising money to ensure that as many children as possible go to school and receive 2 of the things we all take for granted - a childhood and an education. We will also provide food packs for their families to prevent the children being sent back to work on the streets.

I am a professional yoga teacher living in London. Now I want to use my yoga and fundraising skills to make a difference with young children who have suffered trauma or abuse.

Why Yoga? Yoga is very physical, it's great therapy, it helps build resilience, it helps with concentration and overall physical and mental health. More importantly yoga can also be a lot of fun which is something that is lacking in many of these childrens lives.
