Brownsea Island Swim 2018 · 29 July 2018 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page, hopefully that means you are thinking about supporting this worthy cause!

I'm not going to lie, I took this challenge on for totally altruistic reasons! I wanted a challenge, not just any challenge, but one that would really test me, put me out of my comfort zone, to feel I'd stepped up a gear before I hit 40 soon (yeah, yeah, i know you wouldn't think it possible!).  So I set my sights on the Brownsea Island swim.  I also roped in my swimming buddy Clare too.

Notoriously difficult to get a place in, I was lucky enough to be given one of the 300 places for the event.  Far too quickly it became a reality that I would have to go through with! 4 miles, 4 long cold miles (256 lengths of a 25m pool for those of you wondering!) What were we thinking?!

I take on new challenges every year and don't usually raise any money (just donate myself) and I hadn't intended to raise any money this year either, however, after every early morning swim, cold visit to the lake, lunch time dip in the sea (without wet suit!) and hours and hours of swimming up and down lanes losing count I decided this was something worthwhile of a bit of support.

I couldn't think of any better cause to raise awareness of and money to help their valuable research.  With both my Dad and Nan suffering from this awful disease anything I can do to help speed up the chance of a cure has to be worth it.

So if you can spare a penny or two to support this cause but also help those endless counting (swimming) sessions seem even more valuable I will really appreciate it. And in return I promise not to give up on completing the event, even if I get surrounded by jelly fish and seaweed (my two biggest phobias) but also to do my absolute best to smash it.

After the first date (end of July)  for the swim was cancelled due to the weather a new date has now been set for 23rd September, so keeping everything crossed that it will go ahead then instead!!
