We help people with a learning disability to live their lives as they choose.

Story

I am running the great north run - shocking I know!! It is a half marathon........ So far I have been running 10k along the canal in east London, but on the 19th Sept I will be running 13.1miles along the coast in the North East and apparently it will be the "best day of my life". And I have been to Ikea before.

I am raising money for MENCAP who work with people with learning difficulties (and very importantly their families too.) I chose them because they not only give me a free running vest but they do work very similar to that that my family has really appreciated in the past and still does. This week is 'learning disability week' so I'm also helping people to stay "on trend".........

Please help me to thank mencap for giving me a place by donating whatever you can. I have a small target so don't feel the need to donate large amounts - £2.50 is still trendy....... xx

Here are some examples of what the money I raise could do:

Make a donation, make a difference. What your support can achieve

£25 could help us to make the first visit to a family who have a newly-born child with a learning disability and desperately need advice and support.
£50 could pay for two young people with a learning disability to take part in our Gateway Award programme for a year.
£140 would enable us to respond to ten calls on our freephone Learning Disability Helpline and provide vital information and support to people with a learning disability and their families.
£250 could pay for 16 children who cannot speak to attend a special workshop where they can learn Makaton sign language.
£570 could pay for one of our 16-week courses for volunteers, to train them to provide advice and support to families who have a child with a learning disability.
£2,000 could provide 250 families who have just found out their baby has a learning disability with an advice pack.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
