Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We will be climbing Ben Nevis to raise awareness and fundraise for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust after we sadly suffered an Ectopic pregnancy this month, the ectopic trust helped me with information on ectopics which there is not alot of awareness of and the forums to speak with others on the website helped me through the sickness , pain and the loss of our baby.

Date of climb 8th October

Ectopic pregnancy is a life-threatening condition that affects 1 in 80 pregnancies. It means “an out-of-place pregnancy” where the pregnancy becomes fertilised outside the reproductive system or typically becomes caught while moving down the fallopian tube and implants there. The baby continues to grow and, if it is inside the fallopian tube, can cause the tube to burst or otherwise severely damage it. This requires immediate medical attention and sadly the pregnancy can never be saved. Suffering an ectopic pregnancy often leads to emergency treatment (frequently surgical), the loss of a baby and questions about future fertility all at once - amounting to an overwhelming and devastating ordeal.

Ectopic pregnancy is the leading cause of maternal death in the first trimester of pregnancy and the number of ectopic pregnancies and deaths has not fallen in the past 20 years – in fact the incidence is rising.
