Down's syndrome Scotland · 9 March 2014

Our vision is that society fully accepts and includes people with Ds. We support families and people with Ds to reach their fullest potential by providing a range of services, influencing public policy and by changing attitudes. We urgently need funding to help families who are struggling right now.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have kindly volunteered my lovely husband Alan to do the Race 21 challenge and raise a few pounds for Down's Syndrome Scotland.

He is doing it with another two people (who he has never met before!) while I run an informal crèche service for four kids.

This charity is close to our hearts since our gorgeous baby girl Amber was born with Down's Syndrome and we would be so grateful if anyone could spare a pound or two in support of this charity.

Many thanks!

What is Race 21?

Race 21 is Down's Syndrome Scotland's first running fundraiser held during the month of Down's Syndrome Awareness Week (17-23 March 2014)! This exciting, new fundraiser is sponsored byIndigo Social Media.

Teams of 3 will be linked together with our lovely coloured ropes (see graphic above) over a one mile course that includes seven checkpoints. You must work together to ensure your team is able to complete the course. You can only go as fast as the slowest person.

Why 21 and why teams of 3?

Down's syndrome is caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 - making the total copies of chromosome 21 = 3. This wee extra chromosome causes a form of learning disability (ranging from mild to severe).

But despite this, people with Down's syndrome can have full lives - complete with social lives and hopes and dreams like everyone else. Did you know some people with Down's syndrome play the violinmarrylearn to drivespeak multiple languagesgo to university and become athletes, business owners and councillors?

We hope to raise awareness of the condition through this fun team challenge! Will you join us?
