Since becoming a parent to our beautiful daughter Daisy in 2015 my family is the most important thing in my life. I now want to be involved in making a difference to other families and changing their lives for the better, giving them access to things we sometimes take for granted.

Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and ranks as the twelfth poorest in the world. The country has made considerable progress reducing poverty and improving adult literacy rates over the last few decades, but is still falling behind – over half of the adult population is illiterate.

Access to education remains a huge challenge for many communities, with 1 in 5 children unable to enrol in primary school due to lack of provision.

I will be one of 40 Santander colleagues across the business that will be building a school for the Moser community in Nepal. By taking part and working alongside the local community, we will leave a lasting legacy which will help hundreds of children for years to come. This is my chance to make a real difference to a community in need, join an exciting and rewarding project and help provide children with better access to a safe and secure school building in which to learn and grow. 

Currently there are many children that either have no access to education or are going to school in buildings that are not structurally safe and which in the monsoon season are rendered unusable. In addition to providing education, the buildings may also be used for other community activities and cultural events. The provision of a good school will attract better teachers and also help with the retention of teaching staff. The funds I raise by taking part will support Age UK and Barnardos transform the lives of older and younger people in the UK.
