Bethany, age 5, was born with CHARGE syndrome. She is a marvellous little girl, who has had countless hospital visits, but bounces back and smiles throughout. Although Bethany is profoundly deaf, she is using BSL with understanding to communicate her needs, wants and preferences, already helping her lead an independent life. A tracheostomy, fitted when she was just three months old, enables Bethany to breathe efficiently and thrive. Similarly, a gastrostomy means Bethany can have a normal, varied blended diet, despite not being able to eat orally because of an insecure swallow. Bethany's balance is compromised through lack of the right mechanisms in her ears, but she is learning walk more confidently each day using her vision for balance. 

Like most CHARGE children Bethany has multi-sensory impairment. The CFSG has been a lifeline for us all, helping us understand and learn how to deal with her MSI. It has provided opportunities for us to meet with other families and know that we are not alone. Through biannual conferences and regional group family days we have exchanged ideas, swapped stories and helped each other through some very dark days (and long nights).

The CFSG is a very small, parent-led charity. We want to use our ruby wedding anniversary celebrations to help the charity support more families with CHARGE children. Please support us through your donations and in turn help more CHARGE families.
