Through Warwick RAG I have enrolled to be part of the team of volunteers heading out to Uganda in the Summer of 2021. Our mission there will be to assist with transforming an empty field at a local school into an exciting new “learning playground” as part of  PAI’s mission statement - to fulfil every child’s right to play (under international human rights law). Play is directly linked to a child’s physical, psychological and social development as well as being proven to support the long-term health, well-being and employment prospects of children so the difference your money will make out there will be immeasurable.  

Each volunteer is required to raise £2250 before the summer in order to cover the cost of building materials and the wages of the locals who will be helping us build the project. In order to raise this sum, I have decided to set myself the ambitious goal of running a Marathon in under 4 hours. Those who know me will know I run a bit, but never with a regimented training plan or working up to a distance this big. This is going to be a huge challenge for myself, however I wanted to do something that I wouldn’t feel awkward asking people to donate towards :). 

I will be running the marathon on the 25th of April. Most organised events have cancelled their runs this year because of COVID, however, the plan is to plan out my own route – from Lymington to Sandbanks – and to run this on the 25th of April by myself. 

Any donation is welcome, however big or small, but as an idea of where your money’s going: £5 will provide a games board for children to play and interact with, £30 will provide enough money to build a tyre animal and £50 will provide a seesaw as part of a new playground. In addition, anyone who donates over £10 can message me directly with a song request and I’ll add it to a playlist on Spotify to listen to as I run the distance (Text me on 07570100188 if you can't contact me another way).
