Story

A very big thank you to all of you who have sponsored me.  The day was fantastic fun - thousands of competitors, big crowds, perfect weather and a stunning setting. The thought of all your pledges was certainly with me as I battled my way round the course and I  made it round in what I thought could be a winning time - 1 hour 42 mins, 39 secs - only to discover I'd come 2343rd! The winner's time was 1 hour 1 min! Thinner tyres on my bike and tighter lycra next year (and a lot more training). I highly recommend this event for anyone who's tempted  - I'll definitely be doing it again next year.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Back in the frozen winter my good friend Richard persuaded me to enter the Blenheim Triathlon (check it out here: http://www.theblenheimtriathlon.com and view last years event here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHUgtm_Kx-c). Seemed a fine idea at the time; a grand day out, get fit, raise some money. After a few runs, fewer bike rides and even fewer swims my training is far from complete but the event is nigh (Sunday, 9th June) so I am ready!

The main charity affiliated with the event happens to be Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. This is remarkable for me because last year my Dad became ill with what turned out to be a tennis ball sized lymphoma tumor in his chest. He was really quite ill. However, thanks to an extraordinary drug and a fantastic team at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge, the tumour has gone and my Dad is wonderfully fit again. The drug potently and specifically recognises cancer cells and targets them for destruction. Such a drug is only possible through painstaking research. My Dad was lucky because this drug was available for his particular type of cancer. There are over 100 different types of blood cancer and other people are not so lucky. Much more work is needed to develop more treatments that work as well as the one that saved my Dad. These thoughts will power me round the course, as will the 'Kerching' of all your donations - so please dig deep and donate whatever you can. Very many thanks!
