Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Luke and I are taking part in the Cheshire 10k run at Arley Hall on Saturday 10th November to help raise money for MACS Charity. Microphthalmia, Anophthalmia and Coloboma Support, supporting children born without eyes or with underdeveloped eyes.
As many of you know, our son Arthur was born with bilateral Coloboma and this affects his vision in his right eye. MACS supports children with similar conditions to Arthur's by providing regional and nationwide events available to every family and one-to-one support.
Coloboma is caused when a baby's eyes do not develop properly during pregnancy. The eyes develop between the fourth and anything up to the fifteenth week of pregnancy, though development is usually completed around eight weeks. This condition occurs in about 1 in 10,000 births. A coloboma can affect the iris (coloured part at the front of the eye), in which case the pupil of the eye is “key-hole” shaped, retina and/or optic nerve. At 5 weeks old, Luke and I suspected that Arthur had this condition and is now in the hands of ophthalmologists and peadriatrics team at Chester Hospital on a regular basis for full eye examinations and monitoring of his visual development. Arthur has bilateral iris Coloboma and right eye retina (his right eye has significantly poorer vision than his left). Arthur dislikes bright sunlight due to the iris, which usually limits the amount of light entering the eye by controlling the size of the pupil. With his left eye being strong, he is doing so well, hitting milestones and every day he inspires us. He is a gorgeous, happy baby boy and we are so proud of him!
Thanks in advance for any support and for friends and family who are also taking part (see Team Members above!)... It means the world. #ArthursArmy #uniquenotdifferent #raiseawareness
