Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am aiming to raise £750 for Scottish Mountain Rescue in memory of my dad. Thanks to the incredible generosity of family and friends my initial target of £500 was met in 24 hours - thank you!

When I was growing up my dad used to regale me with stories of his mountaineering days when he was younger. He climbed all over the world and even as a child it was clear to me how much his time spent scaling great heights meant to him. Dad died very suddenly in 2004 when I was a teenager and so these memories of him are some of my strongest and most important – they give me a sense of who he was as a person, and the life he lived.

It’s fair to say I was a fairly sedentary child, always happier reading a book and skiving off PE as much as I could so I think it would make Dad laugh a lot to see what a running obsessive I have become! I love running – it’s an integral part of my mental and physical health, and having been fortunate enough to get a Lucky 2000 Extra Ballot place in this year’s London Marathon I want use my gold dust entry to raise money for Scottish Mountain Rescue in Dad’s memory.

Scottish Mountain Rescue do incredible work all by volunteers, saving lives any hour, any day, any weather. On average each rescue costs £2500 and the charity is experiencing an increasing number of callouts and higher costs so any donation will help it continue to deliver its life saving service. I know that times are very tough right now in the cost of living crisis so am very grateful for any support you can give.

Looking ahead to the day I’ve not inherited my dad’s head for heights but I have got his stubborn streak which will definitely be in full force powering me through the 26.2 miles on 23 April!
