With fundraising events cancelled and no clear indication of when we can open our shops or how long it will take them to return to normal trading, Wheatfields Hospice anticipate a funding gap of £1.1m for this financial year.

Story

As many people know, my uncle, Paul Joseph, passed away on 1st February 2020. Paul was an extremely special person to many - a legend in his own right around the City of Bradford. Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds provided my uncle and our family with exceptional care during his final days and unfortunately, is now in jeopardy of having to close its doors. As a result of COVID-19, Sue Ryder charity shops have been forced to shut, however it is the funds created by these stores that keep their hospices up and running.

Thinking of fundraising ideas whilst in isolation is not an easy task! It also seems that finding motivation to keep fit indoors is equally as challenging. I thought it would be a nice idea to ask any friends and family that take part in any of my online classes, to share a small donation to the charity.

In addition to this, and for those who may not fancy joining a class, I have set myself the goal of running for 61 minutes on what would have been Paul's 61st birthday (25th April). We were looking forward to re-opening his bar, The Ivory, for a big celebration of his life but this has now been put on hold.

It would mean a lot to myself, my family and the staff at Wheatfields if you are able to share any donation towards or a run in Paul's memory or your online fitness class - and I shall keep putting my energy into some sweaty sessions!
