London Marathon 2018 · 22 April 2018 ·

We provide specialist palliative and end of life care for adults living across central and south west London. This year, we must raise £13m to supplement the funding we receive from the NHS so we can continue to provide our outstanding, compassionate care, free of charge. Your support is vital.

Story

Thanks for visiting & donating to myJustGiving page.

In March 2016, my family received the most devastating of news. My mum (Liz Harding) was rushed to St. George’s Hospital whilst having severe shortness of breath to the point she almost couldn’t breathe at all. It turned out that the area around her lungs had filled completely with fluid. This fluid was putting intense pressure on her heart and lungs. She was in intensive care fighting for her life.

After tests of this fluid she was unfortunately diagnosed with late-stage Lung Cancer. For someone who had never smoked before this came as a huge shock to us all.

On 29th April 2017, after a year long uphill struggle battling this disease, she unfortunately passed away.
My dad, brother and I were all by her side and have been left with a huge void in our lives. She battled incredibly hard against this terrible illness showing spirit, courage and bravery that I will never ever forget.

For her final weeks, my mum received palliative care at Royal Trinity Hospice in Clapham. She had become so ill that she required 24/7 support, care and medication. Her room in the hospice overlooked beautiful gardens and the nurses were some of the kindest, friendliest and most helpful people I have met.

In my mother's honour myself and my close friend Anna will be running the 2018 London Marathon together. We aim to raise awareness for cancer in general, but more specifically to raise as much money as possible for Royal Trinity Hospice.
This hospice (and the wonderful nurses) are extremely close to my heart. I am grateful for the love and care that they provided to my mum and family.

Anna Ward has been an amazing friend every step of the way, together with her support we want to take on the challenge to cross the finish line together in honour of Liz Harding and Royal Trinity.

This charity is hugely important to me. I was extremely surprised to hear that 80% of their funding comes from donations and the public’s generosity. If you can please donate to this fantastic cause (however small) we would be extremely grateful.
