Story

Over the past two years I have managed to lose 3 stone in weight and also maintain that loss and get fit.  Without that personal achievement I would simply not have been able to contemplate this challenge.  Also 2020 marks the 20th anniversary of the death of my partner's eldest son Harry Pickering aged six and a half. I will take a photo of Harry with me to the top.

I have witnessed how bereavement therapy has enabled Lizzie and her family to live full lives in the years since Harry's death.  I recognise that time doesn't heal, but being able to attend a grief retreat like the ones held by The Good Grief Project, can change bereaved parents' lives for the better.  There is no closure, but ways of moving forward with a loved one's memory alongside.

One of the toughest but possibly the most exhilarating adventures we will ever embark upon. At a colossal 5,895 metres Kilimanjaro in East Africa is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the earth's crust. Our challenge is to climb above the sea of clouds to reach the summit. All money we raise will help bereaved families on low incomes attend one of The Good Grief Projects Active Grief Weekends. These residential retreats are especially designed to support bereaved parents and siblings who have experienced the death of a child (of any age). The aim is to help them find new and creative ways of expressing their grief. The Good Grief Project organizes 3 weekends annually, each one costing around £14,000 and although some parents can contribute to the cost (usually £250-£350 a head) we want them to be available to everyone, especially those on low incomes. Thank you so much for your support. For more info please visit https://thegoodgriefproject.co.uk/active/
