As many of you know, Tim and I lost mum (Joan) three years ago to ovarian cancer, the loss of mum and the impact that it had on dad motivated me to move jobs and Age UK Northumberland became my new focus.

Since joining Age UK Northumberland, I have experienced first hand how their work really does make a huge difference to people's lives, providing information and advice on a whole range of stuff including the technicalities of the welfare benefits system, housing and social care, advocacy, befriending, health and wellbeing and care in the home.

I thought that was reason enough to do some fundraising until the arrival of Covid-19.  I have been truly rocked by the impact of this virus on our older generation, seeing first-hand the mental and physical effects that self-isolation and shielding has had on our older generation.

When I mentioned my madness, as a total none runner, To my brother, Tim decided to join me - what better than a bit of sibling rivalry to get us both over the finish line, so here we are!

Now that the GNN 2020 has been cancelled, we’ve decided to keep going and complete it ourselves, all be it a limitless slower and without any cheers!
