Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·
I’m running the London Marathon 2013 in aid of War Child and I would like your support. War Child is a charity that helps children in areas torn apart by war. You can find out more about War Child at www.warchild.org.uk. I’m lucky and proud to be working at War Child and I’m running with the aim of raising £2000 which will go a long way in helping the children who need it most.
My inspiration is my little sister Mel. Mel is the greatest runner I’ve ever known. Unlike her big brother, she could run like the wind and won a number of championship races in track and cross country at regional, state and national levels.
What I admire most about Mel was her desire to help others. Mel was a good person. She would volunteer for good causes, tutor English as a second language to families that couldn’t afford it and was devoted to helping others.
Sadly, Mel is no longer with us. On 1 May 2012, she was killed in a car crash by a drunk driver. As you can imagine, it’s turned my family’s world inside out. Every birthday, anniversary and holiday since is another sharp reminder of Mel’s absence. As the first anniversary of Mel’s death approaches, I’m focusing on doing something good to honour her memory. Mel would be the first person to get behind me and encourage me.
Your support will go a long way with War Child. Please donate if you can.
Many thanks,
Jim
