We protect, connect & support older people to live fulfilled lives.

Story

I’ve decided to do this run in aid of “Friends of the Elderly” Partly down to a childhood memory I have of a nice elderly man in our local area who lived in a residential home who was a friend of the family.

It's also inspired by the recent TV Progamme Derek that through a brilliant comedy also eloquently shone some light on some of the issues in care homes and the lack of volunteers and funding that goes towards these facilities.

It got me thinking about how dependent a lot of our elderly community are on interactions with carers and how I would want to be looked after should I live to that age. If I can go some way to contributing to someone’s quality of life in their later years then I think it’s a worthy cause.

I’ve never ran further than a 10k and so this is going to be a bit of a challenge to set myself as well.

Any Donation is welcomed no matter how small and I really appreciate you taking the time to read this far.

Friends of The Elderly..

Friends of The Elderly do fantastic work and I don't do enough of this type of thing and I want to see what I can do and get as many people involved to raise money for this fantastic charity that look after the people we need to do more for.

Friends of The Elderly have a range of services including residential care homes, specialist dementia care, day clubs, home and telephone support. Our grant giving service has been in existence since 1905 and continues to provide grants to those in most need. They have been dedicated to supporting older people for over 100 years and will continue to do so in the future.
